BIRDS
We go out once a month and conduct BC Coastal Bird Surveys at three locations in Kitimat. Help us count waterbirds and protect our coastlines. Join our backyard bird counts and the yearly Christmas Bird Count, which has been held in Kitimat for over 40 years. Check out our upcoming events. Bird watching kits with binoculars are available at the Kitimat Public Library. |
BATS
We are maintaining several bat houses throughout Kitimat. Join us for late-night bat watching from April to October. Want to learn more about how to help bats in your own neighborhood? Members also have access to expert bat webinars and can become bat ambassadors. Please report any bat sightings to us. |
FISH
We assist Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) in monitoring the health and well-being of streams and creeks. Learn how to take monthly water samples with us and protect salmon habitat. Help us identify blocked culverts, rock slides, and other obstacles for salmon. Take a picture of the area and send it to us. If you have a boat and are willing to help out, we also assess eelgrass beds in the Douglas Channel. |
FROGS, TOADS & SALAMANDERS
The Northern Amphibians Naturalists Society (NANS) monitors several salamander boards in Kitimat. We partner with NANS in their monthly checks during the summer. With a NANS membership, you can learn more about ways to support our salamanders. Crazy about bugs? NANS also monitors insects. |
